Who we are
Founded in 2017 by Professor Andy Nguyen, Pressure Jiu Jitsu is the longest operating Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Currently student-owned and operated, over the last decade we have cultivated a dedicated community of passionate individuals striving to improve themselves and their skills.
We believe Jiu Jitsu is for everyone, no matter your age, background, or experience level. Our instructors and members foster a welcoming, encouraging environment where you can challenge yourself, grow in confidence, and learn at your own pace.
Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, competition, or personal growth, you’ll find support every step of the way. At Pressure, we train hard, lift each other up, and encourage each other to better ourselves.
Come roll with us and see why we’ve been Harrisonburg’s home for Jiu Jitsu since 2017.
Meet The Coaches
Matthew Isham
Owner / Kid’s Coach / Adult’s Coach
Matt started training Jiu Jitsu when he was 12 years old under Joe Diamond in Voorhees, NJ. After a 20 year break, he started training again under Andy Nguyen right here at Pressure BJJ. Now a brown belt, Matt took over operating Pressure BJJ when Professor Andy moved overseas. He strives to uphold the teachings of our founder and to continue to bring Jiu jitsu to the community that brought it to him.
Off the mats, Matt spends his time working as a scientist, playing music with his bands, and spending time with his wife and three cats.
Eric Foote
Adult’s Coach
Eric has been training and competing in Jiu Jitsu for seven years. He has earned a No-Gi Pan Bronze medal and multiple IBJJF Open Gold and Silver medals. As a former personal trainer and S&C coach, Eric still enjoys lifting as supplemental training when he’s not on the mats.
